I have a relatively new (<1yr) iMac and external Logitech 3200 speakers. The speakers worked well with an older iMac and still work with a MacBook Pro. Connected to the Audio connector. There is no sound when connected to the new iMac. What is needed to get sound?

Have you checked out the requirements via these formal Apple notes?
Select Apple logo / (top left) > Systems Prefs > Sound > then check the output tab (top centre) and bottom right of the new screen you should see a small question mark. Select that and read the contents. When you are happy with that follow the same procedure for the input tab.
