iPhone camera -> iPhoto?

Usually up plugging my iPhone (5c) into my Laptop (MacBook Air, 11-inch, 60-gigabites, i believe?), iPhoto opens and the photos are quickly imported. However recently when I do that, it won't import and won't let me close out. So I unplug it and iPhoto tells me that photos can't be imported, due to them being in the wrong format. But if you scroll through the list, all of them are JPGs like usual. I don't know why this error is occurring.

Note: everything on computer and on phone is updated to most recent software, I always update it immediately when it comes out. All photos are either screenshots or have been taken with iPhone camera.
