How to delete a blank second page?

Ok, I have a document, with 2 pages.

The first page has stuff on it, the second page is completely blank.

I've checked out the support community and tried what some said to do...for instance,

when I click on the blank page and hit the back delete button, I hear that noise that means stop...tried that.

Ive already shown invisibles and the second page is completely blank.

It seems there is no way of deleting this second page ?

I'm going completely nuts, as this should be a very simple process ?

Have you tried the following?

I'm assuming there is nothing written on the second page.

Scroll down to the second page and write something.

Highlight everything on that page Usually this will show in blue including the invisibles.

Make sure you attempt to highlight everything by selecting the whole page.

Press Backspace/delete until all of that page is clear.

Continue until your cursor lands on your first page.

By then the offending second blank page should have gone.

I tried this procedure a few minutes ago and it worked. (Pages 5.5.2)

So when you create a document, you may think you are in a design page when you are actually in a word processing. Go to File and see if it says convert to Word Processing or Convert to Page layout. For whatever reason, I often think I'm designing in layout when I am designing in word processing. WP almost always gives me 2 pages with one I can't delete. Most likely you are as well. Scroll down in File and highlight Convert to Page layout and if the second page is there, just highlight it in the thumbnail and hit delete. The page may just disappear on its own when you change the format. This works for me 100% of the time.

Hi Denise,

Pages has two types of document, word processing and page layout.

The main differences between them are that the word processing document has a Document Body where the main portion of the text is placed. Text in the body will flow from page to page, and Pages will automatically create a new page as it is needed to accommodate new text. The recommendations to click on the 'blank' page and press backspace assume a word processing document. When you delete enough text (including invisible characters) from the 'blank' page to make that page truly empty, the page will disappear.

Pages in a word processing document are all in the same Section, unless you manually separate them into different sections by inserting Section Breaks.

Page layout documents do not contain a document body. Text must be placed in text boxes, tables, or shapes, and cannnot flow from one page to the next. Each Page is a separate section, and can be deleted by showing the page thumbnails to the left of the workspace, clicking on the thumbnail of the target page to select it, then pressing delete.

Pages are added to this type of document by clicking the Insert box and choosing "Page" (the only ungreyed item in the menu list in this type of document).

It is possible to have a section break, page break, return on the previous page causing the new page.

Try clicking at the very tail end of the previous page and do a simple (back delete).

If that eliminates an object on that page it could be the object that is overcrowding that page. Try shrinking it slightly or making it float (with no Textwrap) and not be inline with the text.

Sometimes it is a combination that causes a page popover.

What happened to me is when I tried to delete the page break, both pages would disappear. It was very frustrating. even when i went to "Show Invisibles"

There are just margins that you can't go past, otherwise it adds the extra page and it connects to the previous page, so stay inside the margins.

I like to treat the page as a blank canvas so I can do what ever I like.

What does work for me is to go into the margins in the inspector. Click the icon on he far left (the pages icon) and set your margins to "Zero" this way you can type or add images as far down as you like and it won't add the extra page that you are trying to delete in the first place.

Hope this helps.

That is not necessary, as has been explained above. Pages always starts in a blank Word Processing page unless you created a blank Layout Page as a template, in which case you would know that you have chosen it.

Menu > View > Show Invisibles

Look if there is anything on the blank page or just before the last page that causes Pages to push over onto the blank page. If there is, delete it.

"...i clicked on the Document tab on the top right of pages and unchecked the document body check box ⅔ of the way down, and voila....it lets me delete the unwanted and empty 2nd page."

Be aware that unchecking the Document Body checkbox removes the Document Body from the document, and with it, removes all text and all objects set to Move with Text.

The action converts your Word Processing document, where the main text flows from one page to the next, and Pages creates new pages as they are needed to hold that text, to a Page Layout document, where Pages presents a single page blank canvas on which you may place images, shapes, text boxes and other objects. Text can be made to flow from one text box to another, but not from one page to another. Additional pages, if needed, must be added by the user, using the Pages button in the tool bar.

Consider carefully which type of ducument you need before unchecking the Document Body checkbox.
