Q: Please make 'kiosk mode' option in DVD export FCPX

In FCP X it is possible to make a DVD that starts on insertion in a DVD player, but when the movie has ended, you come back in the 'menu' of the DVD with the start button. I want to make a DVD in 'kiosk mode'. Why isn't that possible in FCP X?

Now I had to export my movie as .m2v file and a .ac3 file and make the DVD in DVD Studio Pro. I made the movie the 'First play' (picture 1) and at the end of the movie it returns to the beginning.(picture 2).

It would be nice if FCPX had the option to make such a DVD, without the need of other software. Thanks Apple!

Use the Provide Feedback command in the application itself to make a feature request. But I don't expect your wishes to be fullfilled. Apple has made it clear that it considers disc output a thing of the past, that is why both DVDSP and iDVD have been discontinued a while ago, and BluRay never even took off on the mac - there is only limited support for it in FCP X, too.

    Hi Jan,

This can be done quite easily in Final Cut Pro X. Click on the Share button at the far right of the centre Menu bar (or File>Share). Select DVD from the pop-up menu (or sub-menu). In the window that opens there are 2 tabs - Info and Settings. Click on Settings. You will see an item named "When disc loads". Click in the box (or on the disclosure triangles) and you will see that there are 2 options - Show Menu and Play Movie. Select Play Movie. See the following screenshot:

The DVD will start playing when inserted into the Player. After it finishes playing, it will return to the Menu.

    Hope this helps!

    John

Thanks John, but that is only 'half' of what is called 'kiosk mode'.

A real 'kiosk mode' DVD will auto-repeat, so when the movie has ended, it has to start again without doing something.

And that is what I miss in the DVD option in FCPX. Should be easy to make for a programmer.

Thanks Jan. I should have realised what you meant by "kiosk" mode (as I knew the meaning of that term).

I based my reply on your opening comment "In FCP X it is possible to make a DVD that starts on insertion in a DVD player, but when the movie has ended, you come back in the 'menu' of the DVD with the start button". I misread that as "In FCP X is it possible", rather than "it is possible".

I need to stop speed reading! Sorry to misunderstand what you were wanting to do.
