No bootable device found 5K iMac..HELP!!! Please?

Ok so here's where I am at on my 2014 5K iMac:

1. Used 16 GB USB 2.0 thumbdrive and an official Windows 7 ISO.

2. Bootcamp created the WININSTALL disk flawlessly complete with necessary drivers.

3. Created a 60GB partition via Bootcamp.

4. iMac restarts and boots to blank screen and then says "No bootable device found - insert boot disk and press any key"

I never removed the thumb drive, followed bootcamp's instructions to the letter, and made sure all other usb drives were removed. Again, bootcamp was working fine until the restart and the inability to read the bootable drive bootcamp JUST CREATED. Any idea what may be going on?

I have included a snapshot my system specs and I am running a 1TB Fusion Drive.

When I start up back into Yosemite I can even see a new drive labled "BOOTCAMP" (picture also included)

I have also restarted while holding the option key and manually selected the "Windows" drive and I STILL come to the same blanks screen with the same message.

Seriously, ***? Beginning to dislike my iMac now. I don't understand why this must be so difficultUser uploaded file😠

Can you post the output of the following commands from OS X Terminal? These will prompt you for your password, which will not be echoed back to you. You may also see a warning about improper use of "sudo" and potential data loss, if "abused". Is your W7 DVD a combination 32-bit/64-bit DVD/ISO?

ISO is a Win 7 Home Premium SP1 X64 only. 3.7 GB total. No other versions of Windos or x86 versions attached.

When you have other external storage connected, it is a bit unexpected to see the output. The USB is formatted correctly, and has the boot ability flag set for CSM-BIOS to pick it up. Are you interrupting the installation using the alt key at any point in the sequence to choose a device in Apple Bootmanager?

One other suggestion is to run the following two steps and retry with the USB (and choose the last option - 'Install...').

SMC Reset - https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295

NVRAM Reset - https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204063

Mar 9, 2015 4:39 AM in response to Viper83181

Can you run Disk Utility Repair and an SMC Reset? The following code may not help, but should be tried. It changes the MBR #4 entry to 0x'0C' instead of 0x'0B'. Please ignore the i386 boot error message.

sudo fdisk -e /dev/disk1

p

setpid 4

0C

p

w

y

Reboot and test.

You also have a different option, since you have a iMac 5K, which is a UEFI-compliant machine, you do not need Bootcamp Assistant, but you do need the BC drivers. The second icon you see - 'EFI Boot' in your Apple Boot Menu - will work on your model. It is a better solution than the legacy BCA-based solution which is very restrictive. For example, the legacy method does not allow resizing the Windows partition, while the newer EFI method does.

As soon as I get home from work I will run the disk repair. One question, I will run a backup first either way, but will running the repair wipe my that disk?

Also, please forgive my ignorance but exactly how do I utilize the UEFI boot? do I simply select it and it will auto launch the windows install from the USB or is there more too it than that? If it's the better option I would rather do it that way rather than legacy bootcamp but I will await your response. Thanks so much for your help!

No, it will not wipe your disk.

If you want to use UEFI boot, then

1. Use BCA (not any other tool) to delete the current partition. This will make your disk a GPT-only disk.

2. Use Disk Utility and create a GPT partition and format it as Free Space. This will be split into a MSR partition (FAT - 128MB) and a MSD partition (the installer will convert it to NTFS).

3. Use you BC USB (it must be a USB2 device) and select EFI boot. Point the installer to this Free Space chunk.

4. After Windows is installed, install BC drivers from the USB by running setup.exe in the Bootcamp folder.

5. For the iMac 5K, the only method of downloading the BC drivers is via BCA as documented as noted in Boot Camp: System requirements for Microsoft Windows operating systems - Apple Support.

Mar 9, 2015 12:30 PM in response to Loner T

Ok so now I'm really in trouble. Did everything exactly as you said above but during format, it kicked out an error saying something to the effect of "Format failed - could not rediscover disk" and now I have lost 219 GB and I can't revert it. What do I do now?
