Q: No bootable device found 5K iMac..HELP!!! Please?

Ok so here's where I am at on my 2014 5K iMac:

1. Used 16 GB USB 2.0 thumbdrive and an official Windows 7 ISO.

2. Bootcamp created the WININSTALL disk flawlessly complete with necessary drivers.

3. Created a 60GB partition via Bootcamp.

4. iMac restarts and boots to blank screen and then says "No bootable device found - insert boot disk and press any key"

I never removed the thumb drive, followed bootcamp's instructions to the letter, and made sure all other usb drives were removed. Again, bootcamp was working fine until the restart and the inability to read the bootable drive bootcamp JUST CREATED. Any idea what may be going on?

I have included a snapshot my system specs and I am running a 1TB Fusion Drive.

When I start up back into Yosemite I can even see a new drive labled "BOOTCAMP" (picture also included)

I have also restarted while holding the option key and manually selected the "Windows" drive and I STILL come to the same blanks screen with the same message.

Seriously, ***? Beginning to dislike my iMac now. I don't understand why this must be so difficult

You have Free Space because the LV Macintosh HD was shrunk from 1.1 TB to 895GB.

Can you post the output of sudo fdisk /dev/disk0?

If you have a single entry, you are ready for next step (Step 3).

Yes I understand that I lost the space due to creating a free space partition. However there was an error that occurred during creation and OS X doesn't recognize it as a partition. Please tell me how to add it back. when I select it, the "-" option is greyed out and I can't revert it.

What does this mean and why can't I select or revert the free space partition?

Whew!! Ok, figured it out. Had to go into recovery, repair the disk, then go into terminal and resize the logical volume to reclaim the free space. There were errors on the hard disk that caused the free space partition to fail.

On that note, re-attempted the free space partition. It worked this time (did it from recovery just to be safe). then rebooted w/ option key and got back to the screen. When I selected UEFI boot it went to a black screen and sat for a minute, then it loaded OSX but with the screen resolution blown up. The closest thing I can equate it to is when windows boots into safe mode with no graphics drivers, only this was OSX's version. Any idea why the EFI boot method failed?

The UI version of DU is very buggy when dealing with CS volumes. The CLI commands (diskutil cs resizeStack) are much more reliable.

yep! that's exactly what I used to fix it! so if you look above, I ran into a weird issue with EFI boot.

The GPU drivers are not being correctly loaded from the USB.

That makes sense but why is it booting into Yosemite from EFI boot and not the windows installer environment from the USB?

Do you have a Physical DVD for the Windows ISO or can you create one? If yes, connect an external Optical drive and use the physical media and boot from it and install Windows. The other option is to recreate the USB using BC Assistant. It may be corrupt.

It is switching to OSX because that a is the only other EFI bootable device available.

I do, but I do not have an external dvd drive. I feel as if BCA is not creating the boot drives correctly so let me ask you this; if windows 8.1 is UEFI compliant, would I be able to create a boot disk of 8.1 instead of windows 7 on a windows laptop and use it for the EFI boot. Basically, create a boot drive in windows and then plug it into the iMac and load it with EFI boot?

The current USB stick created using BCA should work as is, to run an EFI installation. Power cycle the iMac, hold the Alt key, select EFI Boot and then point it to  the Free Space part. Free Space does not create a disk entry.
