how do I connect my Roland TD15 via the USB out vs the midi

I have a TD15-KV. It works great using the Midi out using the internal Garage band sounds. The Roland module has a USB output and I'd like to use it to use the Roland sound samples.

Hi David,
Click on Preferences in Garage Band and then click AUDIO/MIDI. For the audio input tab, choose "TD-15 44.1khz," and then click "yes."

When I plug it into my MAC - nothing shows in the "my instrument connected with" dropdown and I can't hear anything. I've tried in "Audio" both Mic/Line and Guitar/bass...

What am I doing wrong... I asked if it will only work with Logic and this is their response..

Hi David,
That's not the case. The USB port on the TD-15 can be used for recording audio (or MIDI) into any software program that can record audio/MIDI. GarageBand has this capability. You may want to get with the Garage Band support folks to see how to select a USB device for Audio recording.

Thanks for sharing your experience...

For anyone having this issue... I figured it out... Roland incorrectly assumed I had already uploaded the free driver on the website that allows you to use the USB/Midi.... I re-re-re-read the manual section and it finally clicked... 🙂 There are multiple version based on your operating system...

It works great now.... Through that one USB connection you can record as an audio line, MIDI in/out, and the feed loops back to your controller to play through the system... Nice....

I'm no expert by any means... I have a TD-11KV that I connect to my MacBook Pro using a stereo RCA cable plugged into the headphone jack of the Roland and I have an RCA/Miniplug (?) adapter that goes on the other end of the RCA cable and plugs into the input port on the MBP.

Of note... and, again, I'm no expert... but everything was working great... as long as I had GB open, I could monitor the kit without recording. Then, out of the blue, it stopped working. (System security update forced restart...) I drove myself crazy for two days trying to get it so I could hear the kit through GB. Tried "this," tried "that," reset PRAM... nothing. The kit was sending signal to the Mac... I could hit the snare and see that it was recognized by GB, but no monitoring. Then... I tried recording the drums, which didn't produce sound through the monitors, but after recording, the monitor audio came back when not recording. Crazy stuff... not sure if that SOP for this kind of setup... but that was my experience.

Good luck.
