Q: mapping windows 7 to the Xserve

I have an quad core 2.26GHZ xserve and my issue is this:

When Windows 7 Pro machines map to a share on the server any folder they try to access times out for about 15sec to 1min but will eventually open the folder and let the user access the files within. I think part of the reason is that both the machine and the server are on different networks. The server is in 192.168.x and all the PC's are on the 10.0.0.x network. I do have a listing on our DNS server that points to the apple server. but other then having that listing in the DNS I am not sure where to start troubleshooting.. This does affect all machines, BTW. If I put the xserve on the 10.0.0.x network everything connect fine..
