A long time ago, I read somewhere that the 3.5mm headphone jack on some Apple devices is also an OPTICAL port. In other words, one of these adapters can output via TOSLINK cable to my hi-fi stereo optical in. Is it true for the iPad Air? Howz about the iPad Air 2?

That's probably why I can't find the spec for it.

Most of the computers, including MacBook Pros, iMacs will have optical output capability.
