Can't restore iPhone 5S that boots in black screen recovery mode

My iPhone 5S just turned off in the middle of a call yesterday and it no longer power on unless I plug it in. Also, when I plug it in, it just shows the Apple logo then it goes to a turned on black screen and when it's plugged in, iTunes detects it as an iPhone in recovery mode. However, when I try to restore, it gets stuck on "Waiting for iPhone..."

I was able to put the device in DFU mode and it gave me the same result. My iTunes is up to date and my computer as well and I can't go to an Apple store because the closest one is about 1h30 away and it's not under warranty anymore.

Can anyone help me?

Hello Faagmer,

If you still haven't been able to restore your phone, I would next use the troubleshooting in the following article to help figure out if perhaps the USB connection could be the issue:

iTunes: Resolve USB-related alerts

If the issue persists, then it does seem like the issue would be a hardware one, and need a repair. You can use the following article to reach out to AppleCare and see if you have a mail in option available:
