Q: Win7 can not connect to internet

Just installed Win7 Pro, but I can not connect to the internet.I have a Linksys 54G3 Wi-Fi router for home network. It seems every time I try to set it up in Win, I have to re set it when I go back to Yosemite. I don't know if I am doing something wrong or the router is not compatible with Win 7.

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)

Do other Windows devices connect to this Network correctly? Are WiFI drivers installed on the W7 side of the Mac?

Thanks for the reply. It looks like the Microsoft Virtual Com Port (Com3) is not installed (code 31). Everything else works fine. Where can I find this driver? I have been searching Apple but I can't find it. Could you point me in the right direction?

The COM port driver is included in the Windows Installer. BC does not provide sun a driver. Do you have any devices with a yellow triangle and exclamation point in Device Manager?

Here is the latest. I restarted the computer this morning and I was ethernet connected.I am not sure what I did, if I did anything, but at least I am on line. I did my best to stay away from Microsoft since I learned computer in 1986 with a MacIntosh Plus. I just could not digest DOS. Now 30 years later I am taking the plunge with Windows, which it is not as elegant as the Mac, but actually it is not too bad, just a little strange.

There are 3 warning triangles in the Device Manager.

1 Built-in Isight. Driver not installed and W7 can not find it. Code 28.

    2. Microsoft virtual WIFI mini port adapter. W7 can not install it. Code 31.

    3. STM Virtual ComPort (Com3). Can not start (Code10). Driver 1.2.0.0. is installed and according to W7 up to date but it can not start.

    4. Bluetooth USB Host Controller. Driver not installed. Win can not find it.

For your specific Mac/year use System requirements to install Windows on your Mac via Boot Camp - Apple Support to download the appropriate drivers to a USB2 flash disk and Boot Camp: Install or repair Boot Camp drivers.

That did the trick. Now the system is pretty much fully operational... time to get familiar. Thanks.

Please check the Device Manager for any devices with a yellow triangle and exclamation mark. If you see any, please post the name you see, and it can be resolved.

The only exclamation marks visible are in the C drive:

    1. Microsoft Virtual WIFI MiniPort adapter. Win can not install driver. (Code 31).

    2. STM Virtual Com Port (Com 31). Can not start. (Code 10).

I did try to get get all needed upgrades thru Win, but for these two I was not able to.

I don't know what they are I don't know if I need them for my Windows occasional use.

The Virtual MiniPort can be safely ignored, it create virtual WiFi adapters from a single physical one. The STM may be related one of your external USB devices. Do you have any external USB connected devices?

I have two external drives, one USB and the other Firewire. Both of them are working properly. Actually everything connected to the computer including an external disk drive, show no problems.

Unless you see any issues with external devices, the STM can be safely ignored. It is used by external devices which use a ST Microelectronics device.
