My employer recently replaced its file server with a new T4 server from Sun Computing & us MacBook users cannot find it on the network.
As most users use Windows operating systems our IT consultant is unable to help the few of us who use OS X Mavericks.
Has anyone out there suffered the same and found a solution?

It's not advertised via Bonjour, so you will have to use the Connect to Server menu command in the Finder to mount it the first time. Make an alias to the mounted share to remount it easily.

However the server cannot be found using the "connect to server" option in the Finder menu.
We are told that to improve security Sun/Oracle deliberately hide it in any searches (by name or IP address). Useful huh?

In theory your Sun does have a machine name (mySunT4mumble.internal.mycompany.com)
In the connect to server menu can you use
smb://mySunT4mumble.internal.mycompany.com
to connect to the server. This assume you plan on using CIFS/SMB protocols. If you use a different protocol, such as AppleShare, then afp://mySunT4mumble.internal.mycompany.com, or WebDAV would be webdav://mySunT4mumble.internal.mycompany.com, etc...

I got it working today.
I had to enter the TCP/IP address for the server then a colon(:) followed by the name of the server and hey presto!
Cannot find new (Sun T4) server on network to connect
