Horizontal Scratches on my Macbook display

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone have the same problem as I do. I bought my Macbook Pro 13' with Retina display last year in August and I have been using it ever since. Recently however, I've noticing horizontal lines across the display screen on the Macbook, about almost half way down the screen. When I looked at it, it matches almost perfectly to the bump between the touchpad and the keyboard. Is that what is causing the the scratch? It's barely noticeable, but on a black or darker background, it's very noticeable (that's how I noticed it recently. I shifted the screen back for cleaning and noticed it)

Would I be able to get the screen fixed under the Apple warranty also?

Please note that I take very good care with my laptops and I have not dropped it, dent it or scratched it.

Thank you

There’s a possibility that oil on the bump between the trackpad and keyboard has been picked up by your Macbook screen and probably has started to etching out the Anti Reflective coating (AR coating) applied on the macbook screen in a horizontal line fashion. The oil on your fingers and palms might be on the bump while typing or normal touching. I am not saying thats exactly what happened but a possibility.

The etching of Retina display AR coating has become a common issue with thousands of customers only because of very poor quality control by Apple due to outsourcing the manufacturing of MacBooks in China.

I wouldn’t recommend you to get the screen replaced as there is still Apple display lottery system going on i.e; there are chances where your original screen may be replaced with a brand new one which later might have far more issues like Image retention, backlit bleeding, poor contrast etc. I would recommend you to apply a screen protector immediately so the oil on keyboard or trackpad would not eat up the AR coating on the screen any further. Also, make it a point to put a thin sheet of paper when you want to keep your macbook in clam shell mode i.e; closed. Hope that helps.

Regards,

Granel.
