Smart Media or SD card?

I have the iMac 21.5-inch, Mid 2011 10.9.5 OS X with 20Gb RAM

But I am looking at getting a sampler/drum machine that uses either Smart Media, or SD cards (choice of both but they are rare!)

Anyway my question is, which slot do I have in the side of my iMac 21.5-inch, Mid 2011 i5 ?

Does the iMac read both Smart Media cards and SD cards? I am getting quite confused with the different formats, and whether one if compatible with my iMac or not? or whether one type of card is cheaper/expensive than the other?

I need compatibility with my Mac so I can transfer audio files easily from Mac to the Machine, and I don't need it really for anything else, so maybe 1 x large size GB format card of either would be fine for what i need it for, but I want to make sure I get the right thing?

Maybe the iMac can read all formats in its card slot?
