Q: email issues since security update

Today I installed the latest security update 2015 -002

I have 4 accounts in Mac Mail and 3 of them have disappeared from preferences/accounts. My icloud account had to be re registered.

The odd thing though is that whilst I cannot receive mail or in the 3 accounts the old emails are all still there set up as before. Also when I open mail up I still get the message the identity of "mail.$$$$$$.com" cannot be verified" and it asks me to cancel or connect. I also get this message for my other pop account. If I connect I still don't get emails and they are still not listed in mail/preferences/accounts

I have re set up two of the 3 missing accounts. one seems to be working fine the other not so. Though not sure if that is to do with the way I set it up.

If I go to mail and instead of going to preferences/accounts go straight to Accounts the accounts all seem to be listed under internet accounts, but the one that I have not re set up is not receiving mail or allowing me to send from that account.

Any ideas how to remove this security update as it seems to be a real problem

When i go to uncheck the SSL. and exit out and one back the SSL is rechecked. It keeps going to back to the SSL being checked now. why won't it stay the way i selected it?

Is it asking you to save your preferences before you exit out of the window or not?  If it doesn't ask you to save the preferences, it's not actually saving them.

I had this too. 24 hours after returning my settings to what I wanted, they changed again to what Apple's Security patch wanted them to be.

The answer lies in Mail/Preferences/Advanced. The first item there (new, I think) is "Automatically detect and maintain account settings". This needs to be turned off. I think it is checked (on) by default now. Since unchecking it, and setting my preferences as I want them, they have stayed there, and all works fine.
