Q: Convert dmg and cdr file to mov file

How can I convert dmg and cdr file to mov file on iMac OS X 10.10?  I tried unsuccessfully on Final Cut Pro X.  I downloaded MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b8 but I ended up getting a message saying, "Please double-click the file QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg to open the QuickTime MPEG2 disk image" which I can't find anywhere.  What's the simplest way to convert dmg and cdr file to a format that's allowed to post on Vimeo?

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10), Final Cut Pro user

YYou have to purchase the QuickTime MPEG-2 playback component from Apple.

.dmg and .cdr are disk image files. What's inside them?

Do I have to purchase the QuickTime MPEG-2 playback even though apple store says "on OS X Lion and later, MPEG-2 playback functionality is built into QuickTime X"?  I double-clicked Quick Time Player but that didn't do anything.  Is MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b8 is the best application to use to cover the files on Mac from dmg and cdr to mov files?  Inside these files, I have VIDEO_TS file - It's a copy of a DVD I burned years ago with 6 different short stories I produced with total size showing 929.7 MB.  I need to post it on Vimeo with a link for somebody in Japan to view.  But I found not only the format is wrong but I also need to reduce the size to less than 500 MB?  Can it be done easily?

    give handbrake.fr a try …

it not only rips your DVD, but offers a handful of 'size reducer' options ...

TThe MPEG Streamclip software still requires it even if the OS does not. Streamclip gives you the best conversion options for ripping a DVD.

OK.  If I download QuickTime MPEG-2, what do I do next?  Do I drag the whole video file inside .dmg and .cdr file to the streamclip?  After that, how do I export it as .mov file and possibly reduce the size to less than 500 MB?   I really appreciate your help!

Go back to the Squared 5 site and see the instructions in the section titled Lion/Mountain Lion and MPEG 2 Playback Component.

You mount the disk image and inside Streamclip use Open DVD.

    File>Export QuickTime Movie.

The media is already heavily compressed, if you really want to reduce the movie file by half it's size you might want to try Handbrake.
