storage issues iphone 6

My Iphone 6 says my storage is now full. It was at 10.3 GB but with no additional apps downloaded it has jumped to 12.2GB, and even after deleting photos and videos it remains at 12.2GB now. There seems to be something else taking up space but its not listed in the manage storage list.

Anyone know what might be causing my memory to be full?

I have the iPhone 6s. i have been running on 200Mb for a while now even after deleting photos... manage storage kept showing that photo library is at 21Gig but in file explorer its only 2.4Gig. while trying to delete some more photos. i ran into the "Recently Deleted" thumbnail in "Photos" when viewing "Albums", this had almost 4000 files in it...!!!

Open "Recently Deleted" and "Select" and "Delete All'

Problem Solved. i am on 17Gig now

I'm having the same issue. I brought my 16G iPhone 6 to the Genius Bar 3 mos ago and they instructed me to do the reset after backing up. Everything was great for a few weeks, but now I am back to getting "Storage is Full" messages. I have to delete apps (like FB and IG) a couple times a week! I have a minimal amount of photos, no music, I can only delete a podcast to listen to another. This is a terrible product experience, but I have been thrilled with my other Apple products. I'm going back to the Genius Bar next week.

First of all backup your phone data with latest version Of Itunes and then go to "settings" in iphone then click "erase all contents and settings" After all data erased ,your Phone should become a new one then restore all your data with the help of Itunes.

This May Help you to get back your storage.........

Note: Backup your data of your own risk....

First of all sorry for mu english. Second, incredible users are the ones have to suggest ideas on how to fix this incredible lack of functionality, cover Apple service, etc

To get my non used space back I had to unninstall Google Maps, in time I could use my device again.

In my case whatsapp was not the problem, neotjer cache, photos or whatever, just Google Maps the reason

Greetings Sbyrne1984,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

I understand that the available storage on your iPhone seems to be jumping around at random times. The troubleshooting step I would suggest in this situation would be to place your iPhone in recovery mode and perform an update. This will reinstall the iPhone Operating System without deleting any of your data. Please keep an eye on your storage after the update from recovery mode and let me know if you still see unexplained fluctuation.

If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch doesn't respond or doesn't turn on - Apple Support

  1. Make sure that you have iTunes 12 or later on your computer.
  2. Put your device in recovery mode.
  3. When you get the option to restore or update, select Update. This will reinstall iOS without erasing your data.

Cheers,

Joe

Hey Sbyrne1984,

The article below has more step by step instructions for recovery mode. Can you tell me what errors or alerts you are getting when you place it in recovery mode? What shows on the display of your iPhone? What happens in iTunes when you connect you iPhone and try to place it in recovery mode?

I just had this issue and spent an hour with two Apple techies on Thursday who came to the conclusion i had a software problem and my phone had to be wiped. My 6 (16gb) was telling me storage was full. As i took pictures it was telling me i couldnt store them as i had no space. As i deleted images it was like the device was sucking up the storage. I also couldnt back it up on my laptop as i got the same warning, it backed up to the second step and stopped . I have no music or films only 700 odd photos and a few apps but its worth looking to see if your previous phone is backed up on it to as my 4 was so that was taking up space. Apple told me it was a software issue and to back the phone up (which i couldn't on laptop or iCloud) and wipe it clean. If i was to restore it from the back up i may restore the problem. This would have been a major issue for me as i would have lost all i had on it. Dont know why i did it but i took my sim out of my phone and plugged the phone into my laptop and hey presto it backed up and free'd up the space. It now says i have 9gb free and 3 used. Before it said i had used the full 12gb. Had another appointment with Apple yesterday and no one could understand why the back up worked without sim but were happy, like me that it did.

Hi Joe!

Thank you for the suggestions. I'm having the same issue with my iPhone 6. When I saw the issue and couldn't take photos due to lack of storage, I deleted an app that was using a bit of storage, cleared out my photos, and reduced the number of songs by about half, even though I only have a few albums stored.

I updated my software with my phone in restore mode, as you explained. I didn't get any errors, and everything updated. (Still at iOS 8.3.) But the storage on my phone is still having an issue. It says I have 1.8 GB left, though I'm not using nearly the amount it's specifying. After the update, my available amount actually went down (only by 0.1 GB, but still).

Any other thoughts?

Thanks!
Kristen
