Q: iphone 5 no cell service after update to ios 8.2

As the title suggests, immediately after updating my iPhone 5 from iOS 8.1.3 to 8.2, I lost cell service. The top left just says searching...

I have tried: power down, reset network settings, reseat SIM card, reboot, and calling AT&T. AT&T verified that everything is fine on their end.

Is there anything else that I can do? If not then I will try 8.3 beta and see if that helps.

After trying everything possible I went to the AT&T store and it turns out it was a bad SIM card. What are the odds that the SIM card went bad at the exact same time as I updated to 8.2? 1 out of 100 million?

Hey Roguetroop,

It sounds like you are using all the right steps to troubleshoot for cellular service, as in

If you can't make or receive calls on your iPhone - Apple Support

Have you tried the last section?
Still can't make or receive calls?

If you still can't make or receive calls, restore your iPhone as new. If restoring doesn't fix the issue, contact Apple Support or take your iPhone to an Apple Retail Store or Authorized Service Provider.
Of course, backup first.

8.2 stopped my phone and changed my service to "SUSPENDED" at Verizon Wireless. Go online and turn your device back on with the carrier. Or call your phone carrier and have them reactive you. Something in the update didn't work properly. Mine was cut off and suspended yesterday and I didn't know about it until someone sent me an email saying my phone wasn't working.

Are you sure that the SIM card itself was "bad", or that ATT just didn't recognize it after the update? I had the same problem, but Verizon Wireless just reactivated the SIM and everything was working again -- no need to replace the card itself, just get it "re-recognized" by your carrier's system.
