text is defaulting to French, setting is on English

A friend's text is defaulting to French & Setting is set to English (iPhone 5), any ideas how to get it back to English as the default?

I can take this as one of two ways. The first is the text that he or she is sending in Messages is in French. The second would be the entire language of the phone is in French. If it is the first one where messages are being sent in French, look at the keyboard that is setup by going to Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards to see what keyboards are active. The first article below will have more details on that. As for the second that would be a little more strange. For that, I would say to reset the settings on the iPhone by going to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings. It would put all the settings on the iPhone back to their original settings and it also will not delete any data which is a good thing. The only thing that they would have to do after that is to set the settings back to how they like it afterwords.
