Director Player error

I get the following error when going to several web sites:
Director Player Error

This application (Safari) requires and Xtra (PopupMenu) that either does not exist or failed to initialize properly. Please make sure the appropriate Xtras are in the Xtras folder(s).

I do not have the pop up windows blocked.

Any idea about what I need to do to get rid of this error message? I have the latest version of all software (OS and Safari 2.0.4).

PowerBook G4 17", Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Hi Allison

this is a widely reported problem with Shockwave on macs & pc's.

You can test the basic operation of shockwave & flash players Here

My Shockwave version shows as 10.1r11 after the 10.4.8 update. You can download the newest version at Shockwave Player Download Center

also see this page & scroll down to "How to fix almost all Shockwave issues"

Having said all that - Shockwave allows the creators of the content to make their own add-ons ( Xtras ) which can sometimes be incompatible with Macs, or just badly written. So it may be that there's nothing you can do about it. If you'd like to post the url of several of the pages where you see this error; we'll be glad to check them out.
