I updated my iPad mini (16 GB no cellular) to iOS 8.2 and I still have the spotlight issue (results in blank, have had since iOS 8.1.1); but I noticed that the spotlight problem in iOS 8.2 is less frequent.
Is there a temporary fix for that?

I had this happen on my iPhone 6+, I restarted the device and spotlight started working again like normal
Spotlight didn't show results (iOS 8.2)
