Disappearing music

After updating my ipad to ios 8.2, my music disappeared from the ipad, I should explain that these are backing tracks for singing, & I wanted to keep them separate from my iTunes library, but to compound the problem my backup failed. Now, having spent over 24 hours redoing them, when I came to add the latest batch, they had all disappeared again? Any clues?
