Q: Missing Dock Icons

Missing dock icons include Mail, Safari, iTunes, Contacts on my iMac... the applications run but the icons have been missing since last Yosemite upgrade yesterday. Rebooting doesn't restore them, any helpful hints?

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)

Drag the broken icons off the Dock, hold until you get a little animation & let go in a puff of smoke.

Open Applications from the Finders 'Go' menu, drag the desired apps to the Dock or simply rearrange them if they are running  already - they should 'stick' once you reposition them.

If the icons are still broken post back you may have other issues.

Thank you! That worked for "Grab" but not for the others. I noticed as well that my Applications folder isn't in Finder where it used to be, so I located it under the Apple icon under "recent" and I copied the folder to my Desktop. Then I blew off the applications and dragged the new icons down to the dock, and **it worked!** I guess a bit of a rogue fix, but I am no computer wizard. Your reply gave me the impetus and confidence to continue to a solution. Here's hoping it's a permanent one :-)

Can you open the Applications folder from the Finders 'Go' menu? Applications should be stored in there if all is correct.

You should also be able to find applications in Spotlight or in LaunchPad too, if you are familiar with those. It's worth checking the main /Applications folder is correct, try the Go menu again & see if it looks correct – Calendar, Contacts, Safari & Mail & all the default Apple apps should be installed there.
