Touch ID not working on iPhone 6 and iOS 8.2

I have an iPhone 6 which had been working perfectly up until a few days ago when I upgraded to iOS 8.2. Since then I have not been able to use Touch ID.

When I go into Settings > Touch ID & Passcode, I find that "Use Touch ID For: iPhone Unlock" is turned off.

If I attempt to turn it on I receive a screen that says "Failed - Unable to complete Touch ID setup. Please go back and try again." but I haven't had a chance to do anything.

It also does not appear to have any history of my finger prints.

I had checked these forums for answers to this problem and found that this issue seems to have occurred in earlier version of iOS 8. I tired one of the fixes which involved resetting my Network Settings. This worked and my finger print records returned and I was able to use Touch ID again for a few hours, but then I found the issue reappeared.

Retrying this fix no longer gives me the same result. I have also tried restarting the device several times to no avail.

I'm pretty sure this is not a hardware issue because it only began after the update and the issue was temporarily resolved by a known fix.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

same problem here - but the interesting thing is, that the TouchID was working after the update to IOS 8.2 for some days. But: today in the morning, it was not working anymore. I restarted the iphone (iphone 6) - result: didn't help. Then, I deleted my fingerprints and wanted to add a new one - and then: I got the same error message like you "Failed - Unable to complete Touch ID setup. Please go back and try again." - and the same: I don't have the chance to do anything here. I didn't factory reset my iphone, because the restore is taking some time (I have many data stored there), and I need my Phone so I don't have the time at the moment. Furthermore, IOS 8.3 is on Beta and my hope is, that:

a) Apple will fix this issue for IOS 8.2 as fast as possible

b) at least with IOS 8.3 the problem is fixed.

Hey Guys,

I too have same problem.. i updated ios 8.2 just 3 days back and Touch ID worked for 2 days and now its gone, giving me same message "Failed - Unable to complete Touch ID setup. Please go back and try again." and this makes frustrated with the updates. was so happy with my brand new iPhone 6 whcih was working perfectly with iOS 8.1.3 and now i am hating to see it without the Touch ID with iOS 8.2.

I am planing to go back to iOS 8.1.3 now..hope it works.

Please keep us posted if any of you gets lucky.

To all posters with this problem - stop trying to fix it yourself - you have an Iphone 6 -- You have the latest update - contact Apple support to report that you have this bug and it needs to be fixed.

When you have a problem like this with an update -- before you try reloading etc - contact apple - so that they can fix the bug.

If you don't want to talk to them at least give bug feedback on

I thought I'd come back and give an update in regards to this issue.

I didn't really like the suggestion of refreshing my phone from backup, it seemed like too much pain for something that should just work so I didn't do anything.

However, the problem is solved now, but I didn't actually do anything to fix it.

A few days ago, my phone just randomly rebooted with no prompting from me.

After this reboot my finger prints were accepted again. I'd had this return of functionality happen before only to find it would stop working shortly after, so I went into Settings > Touch ID & Passcode and deleted all my finger prints. Then I recreated my finger print scans.

It has been working perfectly since.

I realize this probably won't help anyone, but I thought I'd share my experience.

I have reported this to Apple Feedback.

I have a brand new iPhone 6 and iPad Air 2 and Touch ID worked just fine on them on iOS 8.1.3 which is what was installed on them out of the box. I went to restore them from my old phone and iPad and Touch ID stopped working on both of them.

I did a reset all settings reset, regular reset, power off/on reset and none of this has helped.

Same problem for me, except with an iPhone 5s..

Worked fine for days with 8.2, then my phone froze and was really hard to turn it off. When I succeed turning off and on again, all my fingerprints were deleted and the same "Failed - Unable to complete Touch ID setup. Please go back and try again."

2 days later, it was the complete "home button" who stopped working and I had tu enable the Assistive Touch function to use my iPhone.

Of course, my iPhone 5s isn't under warranty as I bought it about 15 months ago..

Actually, I opened my phone and noticed nothing wrong with the Home Button, it should work perfectly fine but still nothing.

Also, if some of you want to change your home button, be careful, each Touch ID device can only work with it's own Apple A7 or A8 ship. So if you change your Home Button, you won't be able to use the Touch ID function anymore..

I also tried to restore it with factory settings, but it's impossible to downgrade to 8.1.3, so the problem is still here.

To conclude, I just wait and hope for the next upgrade to fix it.
