Iphoto won't open after I installed yosemite

What happens when you try?

After you try go to Finder>Applications>Utilities and open the Console app and look for log entries associated with trying to open iPhoto and post the results here.

iPhoto for Mac

With Yosemite you need iPhoto 9.6. Is that the version you have currently installed? No other version is fully compatible.

Your download of the iPhoto update may have been incomplete. Yesterday the servers for Apple's stores were not working. Try, if trashing your current iPhoto and reinstalling from the appStore will fix this.

I have iphoto 9.6 and running 10.10.2 and cannot open iPhoto on my new Macbook Pro. The message I get is:

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?

iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

"Check with the developer to make sure that Iphoto works with his version of OS X."

That is the standard preamble for any crash report. It can also mean, that you have incompatible other software installed.

If reinstalling iPhoto, as Terence Devlin advised, should not fix this, post the actual crash report.

That means, that iPhoto is needing a dynamic library, that is not properly installed. Either your Yosemite installation has been incomplete, or you have installed incompatible system modifications. That can happen, if you install older applications, that are no longer compatible and modify your system.

In similar cases it helped to reinstall Yosemite by booting into Recovery.

• Make a current backup of your Mac and the boot into the Recovery Partition as described here: OS X: About OS X Recovery
• Reinstall on top of your current system.

Well, the error message is "Reason: image not found"

Even the system on a brand--new Mac can become corrupted, if you install older applications, that add incompatible system modifications.

If that is the reason for the missing dynamic library, simply booting into recovery and reinstalling is the quickest fix. All your apps will remain installed. You do not need to wipe the drive and reinstall anything else.

Evidently. Boot into the Recovery volume (boot with the Command + R keys held down) and reinstall the system. It's relatively quick and painless.

After reinstalling the system run Disk Utility and repair disk permissions.
