MacBook doesn't recognize Canon MP470 printer/scanner after upgrading to Yosemite.

I installed Yosemite OS on my MacBook, but now I cannot print to my Canon MP470 printer/scanner. The printer is correctly identified in System Preferences, but I'm prompted to upgrade the driver software whenever I try to print. The Canon web site does not have a new driver available. What can I do?

Thanks, but no success here. Driver software for the Canon MP470 is not available. The message I get from Canon is "There is no driver for the OS Version you selected. The driver may be included in your OS or you may not need a driver." Of course, I'm running Yosemite X Version 10.10.2. Interestingly, although I cannot get the printer to work with my MacBook, I am able to use the printer from my Mac which I upgraded to Yosemite at the same time. It makes no sense.

If you were to go to the cannon website, you would find that there are no drivers for yosemite. It stopped at maverick. So it's a matter of, if yosemite supplied a built in driver for your printer Or an update of print drivers to cover your printer. Or if you can find one using Gutenprint. Did you open the queue in printer preferences and go to drivers and look through the list to se if yosemite had one for your printer. Do you already have the 10.9 driver from cannon installed? Don't know if this will work in yosemite but you can try. I had this problem myself when I updated the operating system an found my printer was no longer supported. I had to hunt for a third party driver in Gutenprint to make it work.

The last driver that Canon released for the MP470 was v10.84.2.0 for OS X 10.9. This driver will work on Yosemite and I would suggest the Mac that can print is using this driver while the MacBook is using an older driver. You can check the driver version via the General tab after selecting Options & Supplies for the MP470 listed in Printers & Scanners. If you have a version older than 10.84 then open Printers & Scanners and delete the printer. Then trash the contents of the BJPrinter folder located under /Library/Printers/Canon and install the latest driver linked to above.

I had the same problem on a MBP (11,5) after upgrading to 10.10.4. I installed the driver for the MP490 (from here: http://usa.canon.com/cusa/macosx_lion/multifunction_printers/pixma_mp_series/pix ma_mp490?selectedName=DriversAndSoftware) and after I selected it manually doing the "Add Printer" dance, I can now print a test page.

I should probably look at it before posting this. NAW!! I test in production, too.

I am experiencing a similar issue. I was just upgraded to Mac OS X 10.9.5 and now my Canon MP470 isn't recognized. It comes up in the list to add but then doesn't show any support for the driver. What do I do?? I tried following the steps others replied about but still can't get it to work.

So did you install the MP470 driver that I have provided a linked to above? Because this driver is meant for OS X 10.9 so once you have installed and then select the MP470 in the Add Printer window then the Use menu should select this driver automatically.

I did get it to work now although I had to use MP480 instead. After I downloaded the new Canon drivers there was no MP470s listed. The closest was MP480. I tried that and it did work. Not sure if that will cause any hiccups not being exact but I'm glad I at least got my page to print now!
