Q: my online iCloud mail stopped working, but still works on my client (mail). Any ideas what's wrong?

My iCloud online mail stopped working a week ago. It still works on my email client, but not online. Which kind of makes it useless while travelling. No amount of workarounds seem to help, and apples support ought to be named: NONSUPPORT. They have no interest in this or any other problem that doesn't involve new hardware.

    Greetings phstephenson,

Based on your post, it seems you are unable to access the email associated with your iCloud account. That does sound troublesome. Just so we are on the same page, you're only having issues while attempting to access your mail via icloud.com? Have you tried using a different browser at any point? I've located an article which contains some steps you may want to explore:

iCloud: Troubleshooting iCloud Mail - Apple Support

If you can't access iCloud Mail at iCloud.com

    1. Check the System Status page to find out whether any known issues are affecting iCloud Mail.
    2. Make sure that you're using a supported browser and that your browser is up to date: Choose Software Update from the Apple () menu and install any available Safari updates, as well as any security and OS X updates. Instructions for updating other browsers should be available from the built-in or online help for those browsers.
    3. If your iCloud Mail issue occurs only when using a particular browser, try clearing that browser's cache:
      • Safari 6 or later: Choose Reset Safari from the Safari menu, then select the "Clear history" checkbox and click Reset. Or choose Develop > Empty Caches (if you don't have a Develop menu, choose Safari > Preferences, click the Advanced icon, then select the “Show Develop menu in menu bar” checkbox).
      • Safari 5 and earlier: Choose Empty Cache from the Safari menu.
      • Other browsers: instructions should be available from the built-in or online help for the browser.
    4. If you're having issues accessing iCloud Mail from one location or Internet connection but not another, contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or network administrator. Some Internet configurations intentionally or unintentionally prevent access to certain websites or services, such as iCloud Mail.

Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.

    Best,

I'll try those. It happens with either Safari or Chrome. Everything is up to date. It doesn't happen using email client Mail or forwarded to a GMail online account--which I started doing after a week of Fatal Error messages.

Thanks, but None of that worked. I can use iCloud drive and all the rest. Just not mail. I can get mail using the Mail email client or by using forward via Gmail. Which I just started doing becase I can't receive it via iCloud. Giving serious thought to just switching everything to another mail address. Peter

    phstephenson,

I found additional information which may help. Have you reviewed your email client's settings to make sure it isn't removing the messages from the server when they are received?

    iCloud: Mail overview

You can sendreceive, and organize email by using the Mail app on iCloud.com from a Mac or Windows web browser. New mail you send and changes you make to your inbox and folders are automatically pushed to devices you set up for iCloud Mail. On your iOS devices and Mac computers, changes are pushed to the Mail app, and on your Windows computer, changes are pushed to Microsoft Outlook. No matter which device you use to send, receive, or organize email, the changes are updated everywhere, so you never have to connect your iOS device to your computer to keep your inbox and mail folders current.

iCloud also keeps Mail rules, signatures, flag names, and Smart Mailboxes up to date on your iOS devices with iOS 6 or later, your Mac with OS X v10.8 or later, and iCloud Mail. If your iOS devices and Mac computers are also set up for iCloud Contacts, iCloud keeps your Mail VIP senders and recent recipients list up to date on those devices.

Access iCloud Mail from a web browser

If your Apple ID doesn’t end with @icloud.com, @me.com, or @mac.com, you must set up an @icloud.com email address before you can access iCloud Mail on iCloud.com.

To access iCloud Mail on iCloud.com, go to icloud.com/#mail and sign in using your Apple ID (the one you use with iCloud) or your @icloud.com email address (not an alias).

If you only see Pages, Numbers, Keynote, and Settings on iCloud.com, your account just has access to iCloud web-only features. To gain access to iCloud Mail and other iCloud features, set up iCloud on your iOS device or Mac.

If youʼre already using another iCloud app, click the app’s name at the top of the iCloud.com window, then click Mail.

When accessing iCloud Mail, make sure you use a browser recommended in the Apple Support article System requirements for iCloud.

    Cheers,

    Bobby_D

Thanks. None of that seemed relevant. It's set up as IMAP. it's all left on the sever. I can access via *********, or @me.com. Just not online. This started, out of the blue a week ago. It's a bug.

I also tried downloading Firefox.  But I can’t sign on at all with that one. This is the error report using Safari.

I tried using Firefox (downloaded just to see) and it won't work with iCloud at all.  It actually identifies the apple server as untrustworthy.
