iphone 5s running iOS 8.2 (12D508)
Since updating I'm unable to send photos. When I try, only a blank text bubble is sent and received. All photos being sent to my phone via Messages are not being received on my phone either.

It seems you aren't able to send or receive messages. That does sound troublesome. I have linked to an article that may help you find a resolution:

Restart your device and check for updates
- Restart your device.
- Check for a carrier settings update.
- Check for an iOS software update.
