Try this: If you can access your mail on a computer or using another app, create a new folder and move all the mail currently in your inbox to that folder. Now go back to the mail app & see if it will open. My mail has crashed off & on but I have always been able to get back into it by swiping up the crashed window then immediately reopening the app. Then I can go through my emails & see which ones are causing the problem. If I open a problematic email then close the app, the next time I open the app it will crash again.

I'm also wondering if turning off Preview to None instead of two lines might make a difference. it's like the app cannot handle certain formatting or large attachments though this problem only started for me after updating to iOS 8.1.3. I haven't made the jump to 8.2 yet.

If it has NEVER been jailbroke, here are some standard repair procedures:

First, try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...

Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.

If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. It could take well over an hour! Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."

At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod. As before, say "yes." Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time. If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device. Corrective action is simple - choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.

If you're unable to do the Restore (or it doesn't help), go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here. You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again. Also, read this.

There should be a bug in the mail app, never solved (my iOS is ver 8.4 (12H143). At least it could be a useful function to delete the mail cache!

Now my Mail app is still crashing after to have tryed to send a mail with 3 normal pictures in attachment. The app was hanging so I have quit mail to relaunch the app, but without result, now the app is continuosaly crashing.

I've just tryed the reset, hard reset, deleted and rebuild the mail accounts, and performed also a iPad normal restoration...nothing.

In Xcode I can see the console messages about the crash log. Here is it, maybe anyone can find a solution (I hope Apple support will do it!)
