icons displaying white (MKV)

Hello - new to this forum (and Macs) - I did try a search on this, but can't seem to find the answer. - I use VLC for most of my video (MacBook Pro, OS X 10.10.2). All of my MKV files in finder (and some other file types) display a white icon, appearing as if it's an unassociated file. Is there any way of making MKV files have the VLC 'cone' icon? Or any other icon than plain white? - Thanks in advance!

QLVideo provides thumbnails, static QuickLook previews, cover art and metadata for "non-native" video file types like .avi, .mkv etc. It doesn't mess with the file association or file icon.

Providing that no other app is supplying an icon for .mkv files, to change the file icon to VLC's cone:

  • select a .mkv file in Finder and choose File -> Get Info
  • choose "VLC" under "Open with"
  • press "Change All..."

If that doesn't work you can try this:
