Running logic express on V 10.9.5: midi 61es lights up but doesn't respond

The midi keyboard lights up but doesn't respond to the input. Got it to work once.....

Connected with the usb power cord.

MacBook Pro (13-inch Early 2011), OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)
