why couldn t my itune reach the update server of ios 6?

When i try to restore my ipod it sends up a messag in itunes on my computer that says sorry, your ipod could not be resupdated, we can not conact the update server for the moment. I tried again but same message whta do i do? i cant open my ipod anymore cause it shows an image of an wire, an arrow ponting in the direction of the itunes logo.
