No need to get so upset about hackers or foreign governments. I think you should give credit to the Apple employees--When people on this thread got everyone to call Apple yesterday, Apple finally became aware of the scope of the problem and put their engineers right on the case, and the problem was resolved by the end of the day. You must've been one of the first to call, so thanks for your role in fixing the issue. Please give credit to the Apple employees for getting right on the case instead of disparaging them here as know-nothings and liars.
I think their responsiveness and attention to customer service for a product that is free for most people is commendable. Just try to get this level of service out of Google or Yahoo. They don't even have phone numbers.

Mar 18, 2015 10:24 AM in response to xaipeteby atthecshore,I agree too. I called Apple, got a rep in about a minute, and she was genuinely concerned and tried to troubleshoot it. She then said sh'ed tell the engineers about it.
BTW, contrary to what I read on these threads sometimes, she said that Apple DOES pay attention to the forum discussions especially when they reach "critical mass."
Nice job Apple!

I have another similar problem that's continuing: iCloud is still silently refusing to accept or deliver incoming mail from a real estate website to which I subscribe. Indulge me for a paragraph, because it leads to a larger point.
Those updates used to be delivered to my iCloud email account. As with the now-fixed Gmail problem, those blocked emails don’t go into the junk folder —they’re blocked from delivery entirely. When I checked my subscription settings on the website they were fine, and I added a cc: to a different email address. That Comcast account gets the email, and the headings indicate the messages are still being sent to my iCloud account, even though iCloud is not letting them through.
Over the years, including in the MobileMe incarnation of Apple’s email service, I’ve had problems with Apple silently blocking email — sometimes incoming, sometimes outgoing. I think we need to get Apple support to convey to whoever can fix these recurring issues that users need to know when incoming and/or outgoing email is being blocked and we need the means to correct or challenge any blocking that is being done in error. This is a basic issue of trust and reliability. Thanks again to Apple for fixing the Gmail delivery problem, though.

Troubleshooting false-positives
Due to the complexity of accurately detecting and filtering out junk mail, on rare occasions a legitimate email from a friendly source may be blocked from reaching your Inbox. This is called a false positive.
If you feel that a legitimate email message was inadvertently filtered, you may want to ask your friend to send a follow-up email to verify that the issue exists. If you notice that multiple email messages are being delayed, bounced, or not delivered, contact iCloud Support. Also make sure to check your Junk folder for email messages that were incorrectly marked as junk mail. To check your Junk folder at iCloud.com, choose the Mail application and click the Junk folder in the sidebar. Email messages in the Junk folder are automatically deleted after 30 days.

Valid emails are sometimes being blocked and are not being sent to the spam/junk mail folder -- there's no sign from Apple that the blocked emails exist.
