Unable to sync Macbook & iPhone using iCloud

Howdy Marie!

In iPhoto, if you don't see the iCloud icon on the left hand side (source list) of iPhoto, you may need to enable My Photo Stream in iPhoto's preferences. This can be done from the iPhoto menu -> Preferences -> Photo Stream.

Set up Photo Stream on a Mac to work with iPhoto

1. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click iCloud.
2. Select the Photo Stream checkbox.
3. Click Options if you want to turn off My Photo Stream or Shared Photo Streams.

   When you turn on Photo Stream in iCloud preferences, My Photo Stream and Shared Photo Streams are turned on by default in iCloud preferences and iPhoto.

   iPhoto automatically imports all photo stream photos into your library so you can keep them permanently, and every photo you import into your iPhoto library is automatically added to your photo stream.

4. Open the iPhoto app.
5. To change how photos are added to your photo stream or imported into your iPhoto library, choose iPhoto > Preferences, click Photo Stream, and do any of the following:

   • If you don’t want photos you take with your iOS device automatically imported into your iPhoto library, deselect the Automatic Import checkbox.

     You may want to do this if you’d rather choose which photo stream photos are imported into your library. Your photo stream displays the last 1,000 photos added to it. You can drag photos from your photo stream to your library to keep them permanently.

   • If you don’t want all the photos you import into your iPhoto library automatically added to your photo stream, deselect the Automatic Upload checkbox.

     You can always add photos to your photo stream manually.

   • If you don’t want to share photo streams in iPhoto, deselect Shared Photo Streams.

After setting up Photo Stream, you can use iPhoto to add and delete Photo Stream photos. You can also use it to share photo streams, add and delete photos in a shared photo stream, add and remove photo stream subscribers, track photo stream subscribers, resend photo stream invitations, add comments to or “like” a photo, read and delete photo comments, and unsubscribe to a shared photo stream. For instructions, open iPhoto, and then choose Help > iPhoto Help.

You can also view a shared photo stream on the web by clicking its URL in the invitation email you receive.

What version of Mt. Lion are your running? V10.7.5 is needed for My Photo Stream. System requirements for iCloud - Apple Support
