i have and iPad Air 2 128 Gig and it crashes constantly on a variety of apps - Facebook, Safari, Google Chrome, etc. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, what's the problem and, more importantly, is there a fix? I'm using iOS 8.1.2. Thank you in advance for your help!

It sounds like you have many apps that are closing when you open them or in the middle of using them. I would use these troubleshooting steps from the following article, named:
If an app you installed unexpectedly quits, stops responding, or won’t open
Restart the app
Close the app and open it again.
Restart your device
Check for iOS and app updates
- Make sure that you're using latest version of iOS.
- Open the App Store and tap Updates.
- If updates are available, tap Update All.
- If asked, enter your Apple ID password.
You might need a Wi-Fi connection to update some apps.
On that first step, quit all the running apps altogether.
