You could also Google the model of your printer and find the manufacturer's page to download its driver for Yosemite.*
For example - Google search " HP Officejet Pro 8630 " yields a top result:
where one picks 10.10 Yosemite from a pull down menu

Hi Guys,
Ive just purchased a hp multifunctional colour printer (CM1312) which was a refurb, so has no discs. Ive downloaded the software/drivers from hp but they won't instal. It says, this installer is not supported by my OS. Its compatible with OS 10.6 and above! Yosemite 10.10.2 is above, right??
Any help will be gratefully received!
p.s. im also looking for a scan/fax software

That printer only works up to 10.8 or 10.9 for the (nfi) version according to HP Software and Downloads page.

I afraid that scanning is no longer supported on Yosemite, the latest full feature software was available for Lion (10.7) and that is not likely to wiork on Yosemite as expected.
You may follow this list from apple as a reference, only printing and faxing is supported for the HP Color LaserJet CM1312 MFP Series:

Although it is not officially supported, 3rd party software such as VueScan may allow you scanning from Mac OS X 10.10:

Image Capture works just fine in both mavericks and Yosemite to scan documents with my Canon AIO without using a Canon or other third party software, so that may work here as well.

See if your native app (Image Capture in your Applications folder) will work after you add your printer in System Preferences.
