2nd Display not detected

Hi,

I'm on Mackbook Pro, Mavericks 10.9.5
I have connected a secondary display monitor Benq GW2255HM. I have used a HDMI cable via the Mini Display Port to HDMI adapter.
Mavericks displays GW2255 option in the Display preferences, but does not actually mirror or extend the screen.
Meanwhile, The monitor says cable not connected. The CD provided has drivers meant for Windows.
I have tried holding the option key button and cliking Detect Display. Also, tried PRAM and SMC resets.

Could someone please point out, how to get the secondary display working on Mac?
