Boot Camp partition missing, VMware Fusion not working

I'm using OS 10.10.2

Windows 7

Fusion 7.1.0

Winclone 3.7

I've been sharing a boot camp partition with Fusion for a while. I don't know when it happened but when I recently tried to log in using Boot Camp, the partition didn't show up in Apple's start up screen or in the Finder even though I could see it in Fusion.

I needed to expand the partition so I backed it up with Winclone changed the partition from 40 to 75 gig and reinstalled the Winclone file.

Now I'm unable to boot into Windows using Fusion and I still can't see the Boot Camp partition when I start up.

Fusion said

so I did.

The new virtual machine said

Now it wants me to upgrade Windows.

Please help.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

Here's what my fusion menu looks like.

Boot Camp is from WinClone.

Windows 7 x64 is a brand new fresh install that is only part of Fusion (not Boot Camp).

Boot Camp 2 is an import I've tried and it wants me to upgrade the OS because it can't find the OS here.

I will delete all of this if you like. Please give me the word to go ahead.

Something has come up about the MBR is missing. To repair it I think I have to boot up on the Windows 7 DVD. But then it can't find the Boot Camp partition.

Please do not delete any VMs yet. Can you post the output of the following two OS X Terminal commands?

sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0

sudo fdisk /dev/disk0

The Winclone restore may have failed to create a MBR properly. You will need to enter your password when prompted, which will not be echoed back to you. You may get a warning about improper use of "sudo" and potential data loss if "abused".

When Winclone was restored, it should have two modes, legacy EFI and legacy BIOS. What did you choose? Please see https://twocanoes.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/203443727-Migrate-Windows-8-to-a n-External-Drive- for reference.

Can you download and install GPT Fdisk (http://sourceforge.net/projects/gptfdisk/) in case it is needed.

Mar 13, 2015 8:18 PM in response to Jay Pfeffer

I don't remember seeing either choice. I'm using Windows 7 and the article refers to 8.

I downloaded the software but haven't done anything with it.

Here's the Terminal info:

Bruces-MPB:~ bruce$ sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0

WARNING: Improper use of the sudo command could lead to data loss

or the deletion of important system files. Please double-check your

typing when using sudo. Type "man sudo" for more information.

To proceed, enter your password, or type Ctrl-C to abort.

1. After the restore from Winclone, there is a chkdsk which runs automatically when you use Bootcamp. Did you try booting into BC (not Fusion) after the first restore?

2. The MBR is incorrect. Entry #4 needs to be updated. Please execute the following steps (and ignore the i386 boot error message). These steps modify the last entry and make it bootable and NTFS instead of FAT.

sudo fdisk -e /dev/disk0

p

setpid 4

07

flag 4

p

w

y

3. Check the following...

a. Do you see a BC volume in Finder?

b. Can you see files in the BC volume?

c. Can you see Bootcamp in System Preferences -> Startup Disk?

d. If yes, in 3a, then select it and click on Restart. There should be a chkdsk which can take some time.

4. If Windows comes up properly, log in and check.

5. If 4 is successful, delete all existing VMs and empty trash. Import the BC/Windows partition as a new VM.

6. Test with Fusion.

I saw R.NTFS so I started on the Windows DVD and ran Repair.

Unfortunately I still can't get Boot Camp to do anything beside give me a flashing cursor on a black screen.

What else can I do?

This is from the terminal screen after I did everything above. It still says R.NTFS
