Registering an eBook with iBooks

I recently bought an eBook through oReilly, who said I could use this eBook in iBooks. It's also for sale within the iBooks app, so this leads me to ask why I can't get it registered. I now have three copies of the same book due to iOS updates, and I can't delete any of them. Why won't iBooks just let me register the book?
