My Apple TV is frozen

You need to restore the firmware by connecting your apple tv (still powered on and with a micro USB cable) to a pc or mac and log into itunes. You can then reset the apple tv by downloading the firmware. I just did it. Give itunes time to recognize the apple tv, it will, and when it does select the options to restore. Once you follow all the steps, give the applt tv time to reset tieslf and eventually it will come back. Hope this helps. Had the same problem, did the firmware restore as recomended by maw68. You might need some patience, it took hours for the updates to download and then 2 tries (error mesages) to get the apple TV to update. But it did (finally) work.

How long dit it take for you? My iMac doesn't even react when I plug the AppleTV in...

It took a few minutes for some driver updates and then itunes automatically detected the Apple TV.

It took itunes a few minutes to detect the Apple TV but the firmware and the software updates took over 3 hours to download!—on a fairly fast internet connection. The update failed twice (third time lucky). Seems to be working fine now,
