DVD-R or CD-Rs won't mount USB Superdrive MBP 15 inch retina

Dear all,

I have a MBP 15inch 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7 running OSX 10.9.5 and purchased an Apple usb Superdrive to burn discs. I have tried inserting Verbatim DVD-Rs and Maxell CD-Rs but they won't mount. Looking on the fora, I have tried repairing disk permissions but that hasn't helped. Apple's own superdrive troubleshooting article doesn't help either. The discs are not ejected - once inserted the drive makes some noise then stops. Using Disk Utility I can eject the disc.

Baffled.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

They are not going to mount. If you are trying to create or burn music then launch iTunes, make a playlist then it should find the disc and burn.

P.S. If I insert a DVD film, it mounts and plays without a problem.

Smokerz - many thanks. I wan't to burn some photos from Aperture. What do I do? On my iMac the discs used to mount and it was easy.

Smokerz - I have tried iTunes and it seems to recognise the disc and will allow me to burn. I cannot see the disc from Aperture, however, so I am stuck when trying to burn photos to disc.

I've sorted it. I just had to go to System Preferences and choose my preferences for when I inserted a blank disc. Because the MBP doesn't have an internal disc drive, all the options were set to "Ignore". I replaced this with "Open Finder" and - Hey Presto - the disc DOES mount now. I can now successfully burn photos from Aperture to DVD-R.
