That was not Apple support. Apple support will not contact you out of the blue to tell you to run a virus scan, and they certainly shouldn't refer you to a scam app like MacKeeper!
Exactly what happened? How were you contacted? What exactly were you told to do? Did you at any point give the people who contacted you remote access to your computer or a credit card number? Did you install MacKeeper?
What did you do when you received that call? If you provided remote access to your computer or downloaded software and ran it I suggest you post here exactly what you did (without entering personal information) so we can help get rid of any problematic software.
It's always funny how the OP never returns to explain or say that they got help elsewhere.
May be hard to do if you have installed MacKeeper and your Mac has died! 👿
We actually received a Phishing/SCAM phone call on our family home land line the other day - "There has been a security breach detected on your Windows PC..." - South Asian accent (India/Pakistan?). Had my deceased Father's name as it appears ONLY on their TimeWarner Cable account " Wm. " (abbr. for William) and caller said " W " " M " {lastName}.
Needless to say, my 25 y/o son let him have it!
be safe folks
