How can I safely and completely uninstall Xcode 6.2. from my MacBook Pro running OS X Yosemite?
Well I know I can drag the application to the trash to delete it from sight. But that only deletes the application file, it doesn't uninstall the application and it certainly doesn't uninstall the huge number of files pertaining to Xcode and the devtools. I did a quick search yesterday and found this article http://recomhub.com/blog/how-to-uninstall-xcode-on-mac-os-x/ which explains that Xcode, when it is installed from the OS X DVD, being an optional install and part of the Development Tools, it requires and generates a very large number of files that take quite a bit of disk space. They show a command line to uninstall Xcode and the whole devtools that come with it...
sudo /Developer/Library/uninstall-devtools --mode=all
However, I wanted to know if this was the safest uninstall method for Xcode.
Well, while he claims it works with xCode 6, there isn't a /Developer directory on my Mac. So, I doubt it will work. And, I was unable to find uninstall-devtools anywhere on my Mac. He probably still had that directory on his mac from an old xCode installation.
There is a /Library/Developer/ directory which contains all of the command line tools. It is only 450 MB, but you can likely just delete it, too.
That is a very old article. Xcode used to be installed in /Developer, but that changed back in the Xcode 4 days I think. It's now just an application in your /Applications folder.
Drag it to the trash, or else just go to Mission Control and click and hold on it and then poke the little "X" button in the corner, like if you delete an application on iPhone. That's all there is to it. Everything Xcode related is in the Xcode application itself these days.
Xcode app, when I did a Get Info on it, the Size was a little over 5 GB. After deleting it exactly as you said, I only gained back a little over 3 GB of space. Some somewhere out there are approx. 2 GB's worth of Xcode-related "junk" for lack of a better term. Any way to find out where they're hiding and deleting them?
Thanks,

Hi,
So I've just been trying for over an hour to uninstall Xcode 6.4 and nothing seemed to work. I have finally done it! Not sure if this will help anyone, but it seems to be gone from my application list and everywhere else.
>Finder>Applications>Automator>Applications>Xcode (then right click and move to trash)
Open Automator. Automator is found in the Applications folder. then select "Applications". Find Xcode at the bottom of your apps list and then right click and select 'move to trash'.
Hope it helps!
Drag it to the Trash. Empty Trash.
Thank you all for your input. This is certainly an easier way to uninstall Xcode.
I am wondering about the same thing. Anyone let us know what happened to the rest of 2 to 3 GB of space? I restarted the mac and saw the same.. Thanks.
I got "command not found"
OS X Yosemite: sudo: /Developer/Library/uninstall-devtools: command not found
