Thunderbolt firmware 1.2 - applied but not working

I have tried to install the thunderbolt firmware 1.2 update. It said it succeeded but I still have blackout issues with my apple display and the firmware reported in the system report for my macbook pro is 23.4 instead of 26.2 (port micro version is correct though). Any ideas how to get the update applied properly?
