Message App Problems iOS 8.2 iPhone 5

After i updated iOS 8.2, my message app in my iPhone 5 always freezes. What is the reason behind this? Is there any solution about this problem? Thanks God Bless 🙂

Hello imsuperjb,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

I understand that you have noticed your Messages application on your iPhone becoming unresponsive after a recent iOS update. In this situation, the next time Messages becomes unresponsive, I would recommend closing the application completely and then open it fresh. Please let me know if the issue conintues.

I am having the exact same issue. IPhone 5 iOS 8.2. Ever since the upgrade I have severe issues with my messages. It will work for a while, maybe even all day, but then I will go to open it to reply to a text or start one and the app will freeze for 10 seconds, then show me a blank message. All my conversations are gone. If I try to start a new one it won't let me type a name or number, if I type a name it will then change it to "no name" and not let me write a message. I have to turn my phone off, then back on again to have it repopulate. I've tried force closing it, I even tried to go into "messages" in my settings to toggle iMessage on and off but it won't let me. It freezes too.

Something is seriously wrong with this version! I even restored my phone yesterday and it didn't fix it. And to top it all off, I went to downgrade and it won't let me!

I'm having the same problem only on my iPad. My wife's iPad is working fine as is the iPhone after the update. My Messages freezes. When I go to system preferences the Message settings also freeze. I tried turning everything on and off, logging out and logging in to everything. Reset all settings and even diid a fresh install. I even went back to the earlier version of IOS. Nothing is working. I spent 3 hours last evening and 4 hours today reading threads on this issue and trying to fix this problem. I have the WiFi/Cellular 128 iPad Air 2.

iPhone 4S, iOS 8.2: The Messages app is, intermittently but seemingly more and more of the time, "hanging."

Symptoms:

* It will show me notifications as normal for new messages, according to my settings.

* The application can do these things when I open it (or switch back to it):

1. - normal behavior and performance; or

2. - seeing the usual list of conversations, but only being able to read one or two previous messages in each one; or

3. - a long pause, after which I get a blank version of the 'Create a new message' dialog. Canceling out of that drops me back to a completely blank list of conversations, with my whole history of texts gone.

(All those things can happen while the app is running, too, I think. I've definitely had it behaving normally and then suddenly stop responding, for example, while sending off a series of messages.)

* On occasions when Messages is being temperamental (#s 2 or 3 above), I can't send messages, or if I can they'll take a long, long time. The progress bar on the top of the screen progresses to about 2/3 of the way across the screen and just stops. It may take over an hour for anything to go out.

- (Meanwhile, if I move away from Messages and come back, sometimes the message being sent will be there, and sometimes it will disappear -- with the message up top still saying "Sending 1 of 3" or whatever.)

* I have tried deleting previous conversations and specific messages, thinking perhaps I was just stressing the memory capacity of the App. You know, you try things. After a time the previous conversations return. I don't think specific messages have returned after being deleted.... Unsure.

* At least a couple of times, I appeared to be unable to make phone calls while this problem with Messages was happening. One can't be sure things are linked, of course. The problems did coincide, anyway. Tapping on a contact's Phone icon didn't result in anything at all.

* The Messages application on my Macbook, meanwhile, does function more or less normally. I hadn't been using that application at all, but activated it when the phone was having trouble. There's some issue with overlap between phone and computer when it comes to periods when I deactivate the computer's version, of course, but otherwise the Macbook version behaves fine.

--------------------------

Obviously I've closed and reopened the Messages app, turned the phone itself off and on again in the various ways I know of (and find in help articles), and used Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. None of those has had any apparent effect on the Messages app problems.

Everything you said is the same for me. I have had a few occurrences where it worked absolutely fine for 10 minutes, then back to freezing and a blank screen, etc. I wonder if it is not a problem on Apple's end with the servers? I tried absolutely everything, including downgrading my OS to the previous version. Even that did not help. I went back to 8.2 to get my latest backup. Hope someone gets this working soon.

Same issues for me. Messages not loading, cant delete messages, if I delete a message it appears right back, phone is freezing,. Resetting Network didnt help at all. Just continuous issues with receiving and sending text messages. I have to turn the phone on an off consistently to send a message. Even when I do it freezes with a sending message, but the message is never sent.

Since the last ios 8.2 update my iphone5 has problems with text messaging with a couple of contacts not all of them. I get the notification of a new text message and when I procede to open it , it disappears and then reappears and disappears again for good. It is frustrating because it happens with contacts that are important , like my family. I've eared the contacts and re entered them again , looked everywhere and still same problem.

Exact same problem. Apple can't seem to address it either, as I have contacted their tech support. It's a major bug in the 8.2 system and they need to address it quick. I have the 5s, and it's horrible now with messaging (takes forever to load, everything disappears, reappears, etc., messages take a long time to load, recipient doesn't receive message, sometimes all conversations have disappeared, etc.). Also have been having problem with calling as well.
