Do you not believe what Apple say, why would you buy products from a company you do not believe.
There will be no damage resulting from using an iPad charger with an iPhone.

By that logic, should we expect a different amperage supplied from the local power utility for each and every light bulb, appliance, electronics gadget in our house? No. As with all electric/electronic items, it will use the amperage it needs, no more. You could supply the iPhone with 1,000,000 Amps, (at 5 Volts) it would still use what it needs, no more.

So, someone admits to dropping their phone twice and then blames everyone on the battery? Yeah, right. I suspect the person didn't bother to tell the technician about the drop as then nothing would be covered under warranty.
Apple sells the same power supply for both the iPad and the iPhone. And, in fact, the iPhone 6 and 6+ are even capable of using the extra amperage and will charge to 90% in about two hours. The charging circuitry, what regulates how much current flows into the battery is in the device it self, not the block you plug into the wall.
