Q: can't get the apple device to reset.

Try a restore.

Try connecting Apple box to your computer and use itunes to restore....it worked for me.

I have the same problem, I also wanted to use the usb cable to my macbook pro, but the cable doesn't fit my laptop, so none of the instructions I tried worked.  Is apple responsible for this?

Why exactly do you want to reset the TV?

there is an apple icon frozen on my tv when I want to use the apple tv. Tried all the instructions to reset the apple tv and the icon won't go away, nor can I get a signal for apple to tv to work.

You need a micro usb to usb cable. Instructions need to be followed exactly as stated in support article.
