Q: My iPhone 6 thinks the headphones are in use

My iPhone 6 is operating as if my headphones are plugged in. I haven't ever used the headphones on this device, but when I receive calls, I cannot hear the caller without switching to 'Speaker Phone' Additionally, if I adjust my side volume buttons, the screen indicates I am adjusting the headphones volume although there are not any headphones plugged in. How can I fix this?
