Macbook Pro Left I/O board?

Hi,

I have a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012). I am trying to figure out what route i need to go on a repair. Does anyone know if it is possible to replace the Left I/O board in it or would the entire logic board need to be replaced?

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)

Choose your exact model off this page, and you can see photo-illustrated guides for dis-assembly/re-assembly.

This site provides their repair guides FREE, without obligation. They pay the bills and keep the site running by selling some new and used parts for you to make your repairs, but there is no requirement that you buy anything from them.

Hee, Hee,

So actually that looks pretty easy to fix since there's so much of it sticking out.. Where are you located? If you can find a competent tech they should be able to do it.

I would take a hemostat and gently grab the part of that plug that's sticking out. Alternately I'd use a small pair of side cutters (They'd grab it closer to the plug). Charges should be minimal. Swapping the board out, well first of all any ethical tech wouldn't suggest you do that since the board itself would be in the $500 range.

Seen this around here many times and now I know how it happens. That plug is special for the iPhone. It has an extra ring on it so it's longer and doesn't plug in all the way. That makes it vulnerable to being broken off but now I see your picture, it's an easy fix.

Spudnuty has the right idea on this one.

Superglue has great tensile strength, but it will fracture if you can apply torque or shear. It is severely compromised by modest elevated temperature (like boiling-water temperatures). Even if it has been glued in that position with Superglue, a competent tech should be able to fracture the glue and remove that stump with appropriate tools and techniques.

Oh I thought:

" I done goofed (with super glue) LOL."

was some kind of weird regional expression.

Like "messed up in spades".

So hopefully you didn't get too much glue in the socket itself. (Did you?) Gluing the broken plug into the socket.

If not then my last post should still work.

If it's really glued in there then it might still be able to be dug out or the super glue could be dissolved with acetone. (Use only acetone not nail polish remover and it needs to be confined to the plug area itself.) Don't get any on the logic board. The acetone doesn't seem to damage the plastic of the headphone socket. (I just tested w/ the socket on a late 2011 MBP 13" and saw no hazing which would be the case if the acetone would have etched the surface of the plastic.)
