Q: Mid 2010 mac book pro crashing too many times!!!

HELP! I'm basically fed up with my mac book pro crashing so many times in a day. I'm not doing anything tedious, just basic web surfing and music and some microsoft word/excel. I've read that someone recommended to run EtreCheck and paste the result here so anyone that knows how to read them can help me figure out what's happening!

Problem description:

My Mac book pro have been crashing lately. I’ve max out my RAM to 8gb. And the frequency seems to increased to few times in a day. I’ve uninstalled a software that I suspect to be causing the problem but it didn’t help.

That panic is mostly likely caused by a known fault in some of the Nvidia GPUs in that Mac. Apple had a recall for them, but it has ended.

The logic board must be replaced (~$360). If you take it in for testing, make sure they run the VST (video switch test, i think). Their normal tests will not detect the fault.

For most affected, the problem didnt appear until upgrading beyond Snow Leopard.

You can use gfxCardStatus to disable the discrete graphics card which will reduce or stop the panics, but you won't have use of the higher power card.

Apple is currently running a program to repair MacBook Pros with the above mentioned GPU failure. See if yours fits into that recall http://www.apple.com/support/macbookpro-videoissues/  I believe it only covers 2011 and 2012 models but don't give up hope.....the problem is the same.

Thank you for giving such helpful informations!! I did check on the link you gave but my macbookpro is not unlisted. I guess I will have to call up Apple to find out if they would repair for me with no cost.

My mid-2010 MacBook Pro 15" crashed here and there - but once I upgraded to Yosemite, it started rebooting multiple times a DAY.  Was not informed by Apple of the NVIDIA GPU graphics card recall, so of course the recall expired before I could get it done.  Why Apple doesn't inform purchasers directly, I don't know.  So now what?  Have to pay $360 for a repair that Apple should be fixing?
